The Joy of 8mm is open to everyone in the South West of England , regardless of professional qualifications or experience.

We challenge you to tell a story in 3 minutes, shot sequentially and unedited, on a single 50' cartridge of Super 8 film stock.

We loan you a Super 8 camera (if you don't already have one) and provide you with the film cartridge, 15 minutes of intensive training and a strict deadline. Once you finish shooting, you hand your exposed film back to us for developing. You also provide an original accompanying soundtrack, either recorded on CD or to be performed live at the screening.

Now comes the scary bit…….The first time you will see your film is when it is projected in front of an audience of fellow filmmakers, friends and public at one of our legendary The Joy Of 8mm screening evenings.

It's a world premiere like no other where no-one – not even the filmmakers themselves – has ever seen the films before. There are no application procedures, no juries and no awards. Every film gets shown and everyone is in the same boat. It's pure filmmaking adrenalin.
